Paul Ratje
Based in New Mexico
Originally from Mesilla, New Mexico, I studied photojournalism and foreign languages at New Mexico State University, after which I lived in Taiwan where I started my career in photojournalism. After six years in Asia, I returned home to the El Paso area. Though I still have a strong connection to Asia, my true calling is documenting immigration and border issues. Based near El Paso, Texas, I've worked all along the US-Mexico border and in Mexico where I strive to show humanity in the immigration story from all angles. I am a frequent contributor to Agence France-Presse and Reuters, and my work has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal and other publications. I speak Spanish and Mandarin proficiently, which has aided me greatly in my work.
